A BOLTON MP has welcomed a new long-term Government strategy for supporting British science.
Plans to review funding needs and policy priorities for science, engineering and innovation - with a 10-year investment plan - are to be announced as a central priority for this summer's spending review, delighting Bolton South-east MP Dr Brian Iddon.
Dr Iddon is hoping more young people will be encouraged to study science as a result.
He said: "I am delighted that the importance of science is now being recognised by the Government. There has been a high level of concern over recent months over the closure of science departments in universities due to low application rates, and I hope this announcement will offer reassurance there.
"I hope this will also send out a signal to the younger generations that science is worth studying and can be very rewarding."
