BOWLERS at a Bolton club will be able to play all year round once a new green is completed.

Work has begun on the artificial green at Leverhulme Park, home of Bolton Flat Green Bowling Club, and is due to be finished by early May.

The Lottery-funded green will have a sprinkler system and floodlighting, making it possible to play during the winter.

Sport England has provided funding for the project - which is being managed by Bolton Council - after lengthy negotiations with the club.

There will also be a new pavilion for the club, thanks to funding for the Foundation of Sport and the Arts.

John Franklin, a spokesman for the club, said: "We are really excited about this. After six years of negotiating with Sport England at last it's coming to fruition. It will provide Bolton with the best flat-bowling green in Lancashire. We plan to host crown-bowling events during the winter months."
