A BOLTON MP is urging clubs, schools and youth organisations to apply for grants of up to £15,000.

Dr Brian Iddon, MP for Bolton South-east, said his constituents were entitled to the money, aimed at transforming opportunities for young people aged 11 to 16.

The £1.2 million Make Space Development Fund plans to develop 3,000 clubs for young people throughout the country by 2015.

The fund says out-of-school clubs, schools and local youth organisations must apply for grants by the end of March.

The Make Space campaign, run by children's charity Kid's Club Network, wants to counter teenage boredom and vulnerability to crime, drink and drugs by involving young people in out-of-school clubs.

"This fund can make a real difference to the lives of young people, parents and everyone in this area," said Dr Iddon. "I urge local clubs, schools and youth organisations to take advantage of this great opportunity to apply for funds and I look forward to working alongside them to set up a Make Space club in Bolton South East."
