SCORES of caring youngsters are fasting for 24 hours to raise money to help communities in Third World countries.
More than 20 Rivington and Blackrod High School pupils are taking part in a 24 hour fast to raise funds for charity World Vision. Some youngsters from the Rivington Lane school in Horwich, have collected so many backers that they managed to fill a couple of sponsorship forms. A number donated old mobile phones to raise extra cash.
Teacher Tracy Ellis said: "This is the first time we have done this in school. We have mentioned the Third World in the curriculum and we have learnt about some shocking statistics. Every three seconds somebody dies of hunger even though it costs just 60 pence to feed a child three meals a day."
Miss Ellis said the 24 hour fast aimed to help remind children how privileged they are and to show them that they can make a positive difference.
