A MAN suffered severe facial burns when he attempted to put out a chip pan fire.
The 56-year-old left a pan unattended at his ground floor flat in Barsham Drive, Deane, and fell asleep.
When he awoke to the smell of smoke at 9.30pm he tried to extinguish the flames by pouring water over the pan.
But the water aggravated the hot fat, which splashed into his face causing severe burns to his nose and top of his head.
The man was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital by ambulance for treatment.
