PUB drinkers were attacked by a gang of eight men armed with machetes, wooden sticks and golf clubs.

Three cars pulled up outside The Clarence pub, in Bolton Street, Ramsbottom, at 8pm on Wednesday and the gang burst inside.

Police say they smashed a jukebox then attacked a customer.

The 26-year-old man, who has not been identified, required stitches to his head, leg, and to a deep wound on his thigh.

A second man was then attacked. The 25-year-old needed treatment to a slash wound on his shoulder.

The gang ran out of the pub and drove off in a convoy.

Both men were treated at Bury's Fairfield General Hospital.

Police say the vehicles involved were a white Mitsubishi Colt, a red Mercedes and a black, unidentified car.

Three men, aged 20, 21 and 22 from Bury, were being questioned by detectives.

Det Con Lawrence Dixon, of Bury CID, said: "Their injuries could have been far worse. I am confident that someone out there will know who is responsible for this attack."

Police described the gang as of Asian appearance. Witnesses should contact detectives on 0161 856 8150 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
