LEADING figures in Worsley's dream of becoming a world heritage site have held a meeting to discuss their bid.
More than 30 delegates are involved in Worsley's world heritage site steering group.
The picturesque village - one of the birthplaces of the industrial revolution - would join wonders of the world such as the Taj Mahal and the pyramids in Egypt if the bid is a success.
The bid area will include Worsley Delph - a labyrinth of underground canal tunnels stretching more than 50 miles - as well as Barton Swing Aqueduct and the Castlefields and Ancoats canal areas in Manchester.
A final bid is expected to be made to UNESCO at the end of April which awards the status to sites.
