DESPITE the acknowledged fact that no one knows any person who admits to being a bad driver, we are expected to believe the survey reported in the Bolton Evening News that 57 per cent of those surveyed said exactly that.

I consider myself a good driver, and those who I carry in my car agree with me, despite my age, and I don't mean crawling and impeding others.

It is also a concern that the vice-chairman of Bolton Advanced Motorists does not appear to be up to date.

I have just renewed my licence pending my 76th birthday in April. There was no fee to pay and no requirement for a doctor's note, just a simple signature confirming that I do not suffer from any of the ailments listed on the form.

The people who really need additional tests are the 17-30 group who, insurance companies confirm, are the most accident-prone.
