CHAMPAGNE corks popped when Bolton-based insurance broker Opus celebrated its fifth birthday amid record performance levels.

The Opus Group announced an increase in trading profit by 59 per cent to a company record of £1.9 million - on a turnover of £16.9 million.

Opus threw a champagne breakfast for employees to congratulate and thank them for their commitment and support to the company since it was created as a management buy-out.

Ian Brice, chief executive, said: "Thanks to the hard work and expertise of our workforce, we are enjoying marvellous results and Opus continues to thrive.

"Our performance levels are outstanding for a company that went through a buy-out five years ago.

"We're continuing to go from strength to strength."
