MARK Patterson believes he has assembled the best-ever squad Leigh RMI have had in their Nationwide Conference history after a busy few weeks in the transfer market.

The Leigh RMI boss has brought in four players in the past two weeks as he aims to revitalise the Railwaymen's squad.

In comes the vastly experienced and former Eire international goalkeeper Gary Kelly, who joins the already talented goalkeeping staff of Stuart Coburn and Ian Martin.

Midfielder Andy Roscoe, who has played nearly 400 games in the Football League has joined RMI along with loan star Martyn Forrest from Bury.

And the promising forward and former Bolton Wanderers player Chris Downey has been added to the squad.

Now Patterson believes he has assembled an experienced squad which will help RMI compete in the Nationwide Conference.

And he wants his new-look squad to show more hunger against strugglers Tamworth and halt a run of three straight defeats, in Saturday's clash at Hilton Park.

Patterson told www.thisisleigh.co.uk: "We've got a lot of players now with Football League experience and I'm hoping that they will start to produce over the coming weeks. I believe that we've got one of the most experienced and talented squads that this club has seen since they were in the Conference.

Great experience

"Gary Kelly has got great experience, he's a good talker and organiser. Andy Roscoe is a great asset to the club, he's vastly experienced, but will need a couple of games to get his match fitness up to scratch. Martyn Forrest has played 100 games for Bury. And Chris Downey is someone who has been unlucky with injuries but has impressed in our Reserve team. Add to that Steve Redmond, Paul Shepherd and Phil Starbuck, who will be available for us and there's a lot of experience in that squad.

"Last week Gravesend wanted the game more than us. Maybe we have taken our foot off the pedal because we made such a good start. But I'll be looking for a reaction on Saturday, and I'm expecting them to show more hunger."

Marcus Hallows has been released after his second spell with the club. He follows Adam Lucas, who has been loaned to Unibond Premier Division side Burscough.
