THIRTY years after the first equal pay legislation, women still earn almost £100 less per week than men in Bolton, according to a leading trade union.
Figures released this week by the GMB union show that the average full-time gross weekly pay for women is £334.49 -- 15.6 per cent less than men. There are 53,072 women employed in Bolton -- 49.5 per cent of the total workforce. Karen Constantine, the head of equal rights for the GMB union, said: "Cheating women out of almost £100 per week is not only a drain on personal pay packets, it is also a drain on the economy with four per cent of GDP being held back.
"Women cannot be totally equal while they continue to be discriminated against at work."
"Enough is enough!"
