IF the people of Bolton do not want fluoridation they will have to be very aware of the tactics of the Government, the dental profession and the health authorities.
Public consultation isn't always what it seems. In the early 1990s health authorities in Yorkshire claimed public support for fluoridation following consultation.
When members of the National Pure Water Association and the Green Party investigated these claims they discovered that many dentists and dental assistants from all over the country had swamped Yorkshire health authorities with duplicated letters in favour of fluoridation. When these were discounted, genuine local support for fluoridation did not exist.
To call the exercise consultation with the local population was ludicrous.
