THE voice of Chorley, who has interviewed stars like Mick Hucknall, will be back on the airwaves this weekend.

Rob Charles, 39, of Whittle-le-Woods, will be known to locals for his presenting job on Rock FM in the early 1990s where he boasted record listening figures.

Music-loving Rob will take up the Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning slots on Magic FM, based in Preston this weekend.

After spending time at Century FM, where he interviewed pop sensations like Natalie Imbruglia and Mick Hucknall of Simply Red, he took a break.

He said: "Touch wood, I've never been tongue-tied. I haven't interviewed anyone who's been really difficult.

"Mick Hucknall arrived in dark glasses and was very much a pop star. I didn't find him difficult, but outside the studio he refused to sign autographs and went straight to his car."

Rob started out on legendary Radio Caroline, based in the North Sea. "It was very difficult to start out as a DJ in 1986. You needed to get experience, but there were very few radio stations around then," he said.

"I spent six months in the North Sea. It was a case of being thrown in at the deep end. We did everything from mopping the deck to sound engineering."
