THE results of tests on samples taken from the body of an 11-year-old girl exhumed seven years after she died. are not likely to be available until later this year.

A new investigation was launched into the death of Phyllis Porter after her father was convicted of murdering a young Bolton prostitute.

Geoffrey Porter strangled 17-year-old Carly Bateman and dumped her body in a back alley in The Haulgh in November 2001.

The 40-year-old, formerly of Columbia Road, Heaton, was jailed for life last December at Manchester Crown Court. Detectives decided to exhume his daughter Phyllis's body in May and had samples takenfrom her body before she was reburied 24 hours later.

She was found dead in her bed at her home in Kitt Green Road, Marsh Green, Wigan, in 1996.

The exact cause of death is still unknown and an inquest recorded an open verdict.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "Further tests are still being carried out to establish if the samples are of any use as evidence. The results are not expected for several months at the earliest."
