ITEMS from one of Wanderers' most famous ever game are set to go under the hammer.

A programme and ticket stub from the 1923 FA Cup Final, in which Bolton beat West Ham 2-0, will go on sale at Sotheby's in London next month.

Football collectors from all around the country are expected to attend the auction on September 11 as football memorabilia gets more popular.

Along with the programme and ticket stub, autographs of the Bolton squad from the same match are included. The three items, which are in an album, are tipped to fetch £3,000.

Other treasures from that match will also be on sale. A ticket stub from the game is hoped to fetch up to £2,500.

An FA Cup Final Council pass and Wembley staff pass is expected to fetch up to £1,000. Just a few months ago, a ticket stub fetched £3,760 at a Bonhams auction in Chester.

The game has a special place in the hearts of Wanderers fans and became known as the White Horse final, as thousands of fans spilled on to the pitch before the game started. Thousands of fans were forced to spill on to the pitch before the game as Wembley became packed to overflowing, and it seemed as though the match would have to be called off.

But then PC George Scorey, who was on a white horse, managed to coax the fans off the pitch with the help of his colleagues. Even so, the match still started 40 minutes late. It was the first time the cup was won at Wembley, and the first time it was brought home by Bolton, who had lost finals in 1894 and 1904.

Pre-war football memorabilia, particularly items from FA Cup Finals, are currently attracting high bids at Sothebys.

In February, a new world record was set when a football programme for the 1901 Spurs v Sheffield United FA Cup final was sold for £14,400.
