GARETH Farrelly dropped a selection hint to Sam Allardyce on Wednesday when he scored a hat-trick in a private friendly at Birmingham.

The Republic of Ireland midfielder, who celebrates his 28th birthday today, has not figured in any of Wanderers' Premiership squads since the manager suggested this season could be his last chance to make the grade.

But he made a telling impact as a team of Reebok reserves, featuring a number of foreign tralists, held a strong Blues line-up 3-3.

Wanderers' reserve team fixture against Middlesbrough next Monday has been switched from the County Ground Leyland to the Reebok.
