AS you may be aware, Iceland has taken the deplorable decision to resume whaling.

It claims the whales are eating too many fish, thus depriving their fishermen of a living.

The only answer to this problem -- the whales must die! But how can they justify this when all whale species are endangered, which is why most countries banned whaling in the first place?

In my opinion, each country is merely the guardian of the wildlife within its domain. It certainly does not have the right to exterminate it wholesale in the name of tradition, or because its fishermen will not accept that it was their own greed that emptied the seas.

If any reader feels as outraged as I do, please write as soon as possible to the Icelandic Embassy, 1, Eaton Terrace, London, SW1, urging their government to rethink its petty attitude towards the whales, and to see them for what they truly are -- beautiful, intelligent and noble creatures that deserve much better than a painful and bloody death at the end of a harpoon.
