Wanderers have snapped up a Portuguese striker who turned down Benfica and Porto to come to the Reebok.

Ricardo Vaz Te, just 16-years-old, is 6ft 2ins and described as an athletic player with a 'decent touch'.

The under-17 international joined earlier this month and scored a double for the Wanderers under-19s in a 4-1 drubbing of Chelsea at Euxton.

Geoff McDougle, the Academy's recruitment officer, said: "We've been monitoring him for a while. He's got a great reputation."

"We invited him over for a trial last season and he bagged a hat-trick in that game!"
