GREATER Manchester County Fire Service has teamed up with Manchester's Chinese community to stage a colourful cross-cultural day of Dragon Boat racing and family attractions.

The event, near to the Lowry Centre at Salford Quays on Sunday, will support a large number of charities in the region and is the second year the joint event has been held.

It will open with a Lion Dance ceremony at 10.45am followed by the first race at 11am.

More than 20 racing teams are taking part and entertainment will include Kung Fu demonstrations, Chinese souvenir stalls as well as firefighting vehicles and exhibits from the Greater Manchester Fire Service Museum.

Street entertainers will be on the quayside, while the Radio Lollipop roadshow provides music and commentaries throughout the day.

The event will end after the last race at 5pm and admission is free.

Car parking is free at the Manchester United Car Park or you can park at the nearby Lowry Centre where you will have to pay. The site is on a direct Metrolink service route.

Chinese food will be on sale throughout the day and other food outlets will sell English meals.
