POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a 34-year-old man was hit on the head with an axe by a masked gang who stole his car and then robbed a supermarket.
He was attacked at his home in Hallswater Crescent, Unsworth, Bury, on Friday at 9pm by the men who forced him to hand over the keys to his Audi A4, worth £18,000.
Next day, the men used the car at about 9.30pm to steal cash as they threatened staff at Asda in Pilsworth with an axe and a machete.
The Audi was later found abandoned and burnt out in Rochdale Road, Bury.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the two incidents to come forward. Anyone who saw anything suspicious is asked to call Bury CID on 0161 856 8150.
