WORK to restore an historic 150-year-old chimney in Bury has finally started -- financed by £44,000 grants.
The Two Brooks Chimney at Hawkshaw had been threatened with demolition after falling into disrepair.
But local businessman Tom Baldwin recently bought the chimney in a move to prevent its demolition.
With help from Bury Council, a package of grants have now been obtained so it can be saved.
Cllr Stella Smith said it was "an important part of the area's industrial heritage".
