TERRY Lalley has added a new dimension to the idea of club commitment with his performances for Bolton Harriers' British League team this season.

The throws specialist has competed in all three matches so far, after travelling from his home - in the South of France.

Lalley works as a financial advisor in Cannes, and flies to Britain from Nice to compete for his new club each month.

Lalley says he has followed Harriers' impressive rise up the league ladder from Northern Division Two to National League competition, and was inspired to compete again, despite being the wrong side of 50.

The former darts player only took up athletics at 35-years-old, and captained Swansea's British League team in the early 1990s.

His experience and age-defying performances have been vital for a club which has been short on numbers in the throwing events, and has contributed to the club's emergence as promotion contenders after the relegation scrap of last season.

In the Horwich Jubilee 4-mile road race, middle-distance runner Liz Proctor finished a fine 3rd in a high-quality women's race with 22 mins 12, while Chris Iddon ran well in his first road appearance for a couple of years.

Iddon, more at home running 400m for Harriers' British League team, finished eighth in an impressive 20mins 13secs.

His clubmates Ian Selby and Tim Ellis had another close battle with Selby getting away in the closing stages for 15th in 20:36, and Ellis one place and eight seconds behind. Selby took 4th place in the series.
