The ground, the stats and the signings

Ground: Fratton Park.

Manager: Harry Redknapp.

Nickname: Pompey.

Current position: 5th.

Last time out: Man City 1 (Sommeil), Portsmouth 1 (Yakubu).

How they lined up: Hislop, Schemmel, Zivkovic, Stefanovic, De Zeeuw, Stone, Quashie, Faye, Berger (Harper), Sheringham, Yakubu (Pericard). Not used: Wapenaar, O'Neil, Primus.

Injury update: Last season's top goal scorer Svetoslav Todorov is a long term casualty as is England under-21 defender Matt Taylor. Veteran Tim Sherwood is also suffering with an ear infection, while Hayden Foxe has a calf strain.

Form guide: Four points from two Premiership outings means so far so good for Redknapp's newcomers - but it could so easily have been the maximum six.

Like Wanderers, Pompey conceded a late, late strike on Saturday to drop two points but have already shown their pedigree with a win over Aston Villa.

Teddy Sheringham and Czech international Patrick Berger scored in that win, while summer signing Nigerian Yakubu Ayegbeni hit the goal at the City of Manchester Stadium. Redknapp believes the latter can really make a mark in England.

"He is strong and quick and will give most defences a hard time," said the boss. "He took his goal well and he could have a big future."

But despite a number of new arrivals in the close season Redknapp still fears the size of his squad to cope with the demands of the Premiership, adding: "We have no strength in depth. If we could play the team we fielded on Saturday every week we wouldn't have a problem but we are bound to get injuries and suspensions.

"We don't have a left-back at the club and we also need another front man and someone else to play in midfield."

Match odds (supplied by BWFC bet): Portsmouth 11-10, Wanderers 11-5, draw 9-4.
