WITH regard to the sad loss of Mr Harry Scholes. The fact that he received an OBE seems to have gone unreported.
He was my head teacher at Lever Edge Lane CP. A gentleman of the first order. He introduced school savings into LELCP and, if my memory serves me right, that was one of the reasons for his bestowal of honour.
He was a man without compare and influenced so many people. He was a true inspiration. An imposing man, as I remember, tall, and a reassuring character. Always fair and more than willing to take any pupil under his wing.
He had a presence that always went unsaid with both pupils and staff, the like of which I don't think we will ever see again. His commitment and genuine care for each of the children in his care cannot be surpassed. He will be sadly missed.
