HARRY Redknapp will be looking to make it two straight home wins when his Portsmouth side entertain Wanderers on Tuesday night writes Richard Mulligan

The ex-West Ham boss saw his charges open their Premiership account with a 2-1 win over Aston Villa nine days ago at Fratton Park, and hopes to make it a maximum six points when they play Sam Allardyce's Bolton, who lost 4-0 to Manchester United in their only away game so far.

Pompey went two goals up against Villa with strikes from Teddy Sheringham and Patrick Berger, two of their new boys with plenty of Premiership experience.

Nigel Quashie is the only member of the current Pompey first eleven who was at the club when they last faced Wanderers in February 2001. That just shows Redknapp's wheeling and dealing since taking over 18 months ago, bringing in seven new players this summer alone.

The new names in blue include record signing Dejan Stefanovic, defender Sebastien Schemmel and the highly rated Amdy Faye, while a number of experienced players such as Steve Stone and Tim Sherwood joined last year.

One player gunning for a crack at Wanderers is French striker Vincent Pericard who joined the club from Juventus in a £400,000 deal after a loan spell and is now looking to replace Yakubu Aiyegbeni alongside Sheringham.

Pericard watched Svetoslav Todorov bang 26 goals last season, but with the Bulgarian injured he now feels he deserves a chance.

He said: "I want to be playing. It is so frustrating. But it is natural to have competition for all places and I am not scared of that.

"At Portsmouth I think I have the chance to do something great but I know I must improve in front of goal.

"The expectation at Portsmouth is that we can beat some good teams and stay up. I think we can surprise a few people.

"When you look at sides like Manchester United and Arsenal you know it will be hard but we played against United in the FA Cup last season and I was pleased I did so well in it. Who knows how we will do?"

Meanwhile Redknapp continues his search for defensive cover due to the absence of Matt Taylor and recent niggles suffered by Hayden Foxe.

Pompey are locked in talks with Brazilian club Cruzeiro as they attempt to thrash out a deal to sign Argentina World Cup star Juan Pablo Sorin.

Chairman Milan Mandaric, chief executive Peter Storrie and Redknapp have met representatives of the South American side but an agreement has yet to be reached.

Mandaric said: "It may well be that there has to be a bit of give and take from both sides. If not and there is no common ground then we will have to cast our net in another direction."
