IT MAY not be as hyped as the infamous battle of the bands between Oasis and Blur.

But for two Bolton musicians, the gloves are off as they get ready to fight it out in Manchester tomorrow.

Boy band Outline and singer songwriter James Edgington are representing Bolton at The Printworks' Showstoppers final.

They are up against acts from across Greater Manchester and the prize is the chance to star in their very own promotional video to kick start their career. Patrick McGuinness and Archie Kelly -- stars of Channel 4's Phoenix Nights -- will be on the judging panel and the fun starts at 2pm.

James, aged 20, from Bolton, has been a singer since he was five. The Manchester Metropolitan University student has been recording since the age of 14.

He has also starred in professional and amateur musicals, appearing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The former Bolton School pupil, who lives in Bradley Fold, says his ultimate ambition is to get a record deal with pop supremo Nigel Martin-Smith, Take That's former manager.

He said: "I'd love to become an established musician.

"I went in for last year's Pop Idol audition. It's not my thing, though, because I want to have a long-lasting career."

Outline, meanwhile, is a three-piece boy-band made up of 16-year-old lead singer Jordan Watson, drummer Dale Melia, 15, and bass player Nat Nelson, 16.

They formed three years ago when Jordan and Nat, both Canon Slade pupils, decided to create a band. Dale, who goes to Bolton Pentecostal Church with Jordan, also joined.

The group plays rock music similar to US band Nirvana. Manager Bayo Adebanjo said: "They're very talented lads and when I first heard their stuff I was blown away."Showstoppers kicked off on July 24 and has been running for three weeks.

The Printworks Centre Director, Fred Booth, said: "The winner will follow in the steps of true stars such as Lionel Ritchie and Blazin' Squad, who have appeared in The Pump Yard in front of a large audience.

"Manchester is a city that is rich in culture and we aim to display local talent on a scale never before seen in the North West."
