INTERNATIONAL opera star Thomas Round has released his autobiography, A Wandering Minstrel, I.

The book gives a peep behind the curtains into the life of one of the best known and respected operatic tenors.

Round, aged 87, retains his strong links with Bolton's New Rosemere Amateur Operatic Society, having recently accepted honorary life membership to the group.

Members of Rosemere have on occasions provided choral support to Round when he has given concerts in the area.

His book is an entertaining account of his life and career.

It is wonderfully warm and incredibly down to earth for a man whose theatrical life has taken him to the Royal Variety and the heights of the renowned D'oyly Carte company, mixing with the greatest Gilbert and Sullivan stars.

The book is published by Carnegie Publishing and is priced £20.
