Bury 0 Bolton 13 BOLTON never really looked like having to work hard as they coasted to victory in their local derby clash in the North Lancashire Division One.

Bolton took the lead then increased it with two 30 metres penalties from the reliable boot of Lovgreen.

The mixed-up pack, which had four changes from last week, were easily matching and controlling the larger Bury pack.

The second half saw Bury unable to capitalise when Bolton were down to 12 men for five minutes due to a sin-binning for Singleton and injuries to Joseph and Aspinall.

A superb team try followed for Bolton which was finished off by Howarth and converted by Lovgreen.

Bolton face lowly Old Bedians at home on Saturday.

Bolton’s second team beat Clitheroe first team 29-19 at Avenue Street.

They gained revenge for a 12-9 defeat in December when they missed two last-minute penalties which would have given them a draw. This time Bolton’s usually solid side was unsettled at times as Clitheroe started strongly.

Bolton started to get a grip of the game around the half-hour mark. Stuart Evans made a telling run, Lloyd Green ran through strongly Green and Alan Catterall touched down. The conversion was missed by Mike Singleton.

Clitheroe hit back with a converted try.

Bolton began to take command and Jez Rees found himself on the end of a Singleton pass to finish beyond the whitewash, the conversion kicked by Chris Turner.  The game was then one-sided and Mike Singleton threw a dummy and jinked over the line beneath the posts, the conversion kicked by Chris Turner.

Clitheroe hit back with a penalty, and with only three points between the sides Bolton piled on the pressure and it told when Jez Rees scored his second of the day, the conversion kicked again by Turner.

Bolton’s third team were well beat 47-0 at top-of-the-league Rossendale and the fourths were hammered 56-0 at home to Orrell second team. However, losing five players to injury throughout the game and with no replacements it meant it was always going to be a losing battle.

The pack tried vainly to live with their larger opposite numbers, but despite brave resistance the breaks all fell to Orrell.
