CAN we fix it? Yes we can! Could your child give Bob the Builder a run for his money?

B&Q Warehouse's monthly DIY kids activity days are proving to be a huge success -- with more than 60 children regularly attending.

The days are aimed at primary school children, giving them hands-on experience and basic skills in DIY.

Children can learn how to make wooden toys, use tools, paint pictures and enter competitions free of charge at the Bolton Gate Retail Park branch, on Roundhill Way.

B&Q events co-ordinator William Bromilow, who runs the fun days, said: "It is great to have the children in the store. It's very popular, and its good for B&Q to actually provide something for the community. We hold competitions and let the customers judge. The kids can win toys for themselves and DIY equipment for their parents. The children love it."

The store also holds a women's DIY night once a month, teaching basic skills and giving advice on home building matters. Those wishing to learn must pay for their own wood at the store, where they will also be taught by Mr Bromilow, who also runs a gardening class.

Women in the class are currently building a doll's house which, when finished, will be donated to the children's ward at Bolton Royal Hospital.

Store manager Warren Taylor, said: "It is handy for the parents when we do the kids day, as they can shop while the children are doing their own DIY. We are trying to inspire more people to take up DIY who would not normally be associated with it. And with the kids, we are hoping to attract some customers of the future."

The next women's DIY night will be held on Thursday June 5 at 6.30pm. Anyone interested in either this or the Children's activity days should ring the B&Q Warehouse on 365676.
