BOLTON United Harriers Senior Men's track and field team started their second full season in the British League in high spirits and with great expectations following some off season strengthening of the squad.
New man Terry Lalley earned valuable points in the hammer, discus and the shot putt while winners in the field included Great Britain high jumper Brian Hall and Tom Hope in the B string triple jump.
The track stars took the team from a mediocre position to the top spot and thus their first match victory at this level of competition.
Superb performances were recorded by another Great Britain athlete, Tom Lancashire, with wins in the 800m and 1500m A string races.
Victory also came from Dave Ricketts in the 5000m A race.
These wins helped Bolton to win by four points over Rugby and Northants.
The next match is at Swindon in July.
