DNA tests have confirmed the body of a man found on a Spanish island is that of a missing Bolton pensioner.

Richard Riley, aged 77, who had dementia, went missing on Menorca last August during a family holiday. A body found three weeks later was buried by Spanish authorities without the knowledge of his family.

They refused to exhume the body until DNA tests proved it was Mr Riley's.

This has now been confirmed opening the way for his widow Agnes and family to exhume the body and bring her husband home for a funeral.

Mrs Riley, aged 77, of Bury Road, Tonge Fold, Bolton said today: "It was a relief. This has been going on such a long time.

"We have been wondering all the time if it really was Richard. The whole thing has been very upsetting."
