HOW they rated

Wanderers

4-3-3

JUSSI JASSKELAINEN ... 7

No serious saves to make but he exuded confidence and composure with his handling in tough conditions

BRUNO N'GOTTY ... 8

Outstanding on his return at right back; played a vital role in another impressive defensive unit

"He's given us stability," says Bergsson, "always there at the tight time." - the ultimate compliment

Had a tricky first half on his first game back; improved second half and his block on Kanoute was vital

PER FRANDSEN ... 7

Never really got any fluency into his game but when it got tough in the second half he battled well

IVAN CAMPO ... 8

Appeared to be he calmest figure on the field, in possession or not. Always had time to play

JAY-JAY OKOCHA ... 9

He was the man who made all the difference; great goal and another impressive performance

BERNARD MENDY ... 6

Stung James's fingertips with a cracking shot on the run; wasted a lot of possession second half

Not at his best but the big man never stopped working and making himself available

Man of the Match

JAY-JAY OKOCHA

SO good they named him twice! The Nigerian ace's goal made all the difference but there was a touch of class about his entire performance from his first probing pass that dictated the direction of Wanderers' attack.

Magic Moment

THE man who thanks God for his talent came up with a goal made in heaven, Okocha said: "I had nothing else on my mind but to go on and finish it. I took my chance." There was something special about the way he got past Cole and then beat James from long range.

Moan of the Match

IT was to be understood that the team that lost would be bitterly disappointed but West Ham reacted wildly. Ian Pearce's tackle on Pierre-Yves Andre was stupid and his push on Gudni Bergsson crazy. Joe Cole and Rufus Brevett were looking for trouble.
