ON Saturday I told of how during the Second World War and after, life jackets "to save Servicemen's lives at sea" were made at a firm in Sackville Street, Bolton.

Mrs Brenda Heaton, of Wigan Road, Deane, now tells me that she worked at the firm, Bedding Bolton Ltd., whose headquarters were in Shifnall Street, with a mill in Sackville Street, for nine years. In those days, the paper did not print the names of local firms in stories, but Mrs Heaton says that the trade name was Heatherdown, and the firm made mattresses, and also produced three-piece suites, and upholstered.
