TEENAGERS enjoyed their last day of the school term by taking part in an annual charity fun run - around the Reebok Stadium.

More than 150 year nine pupils -- aged 13 and 14 -- from St Joseph's RC High School completed 10 circuits of the Reebok Stadium.

Basking in the warm sunshine, the youngsters raced, walked and chatted as they made their way round the ground.

And as it was a non-uniform day, many took the opportunity to colour their hair in shades of green and red.

All the money the youngsters raise from the sponsored fun run will go towards the Salford Diocese Rescue Society and the Liverpool Diocese Nugent Collection -- charities which support children and families in need.

Throughout Lent, youngsters at the Chorley New Road school have been raising money for the charities through a variety of fun activities, such as ten-pin bowling and sponsored walks.

They are aiming to top the £7,000 that they raised last year.

Susan Lloyd, the school's head of year nine, said: "This is the fourth or fifth year that we have done the run.

"A few of the pupils raced round the stadium, but most of them ambled round."

Liam Lonsdale, aged 14, had coloured his hair green especially for the occasion.

He said: "I do a lot of long distance running, so this eventwasn't difficult. It's a nice way to spend the last day of term."

Fellow year nine pupil Gemma Lysycia, aged 14, said: "We have had lots of activity days. The netball team played against the staff for charity and that was pretty interesting."

Teacher Mike O'Callaghan said that raising the money encouraged the children to think of people less well off.
