LEEDS United ace Jason Wilcox went back to his roots to offer top tips to Bolton youngsters.

The Bolton-born England winger put a smile on the face of children at Zac's Youth Bar in Market Street, Farnworth, when he joined them for a kickabout yesterday.

The 31-year-old, who grew up in Farnworth, enjoyed a guided tour of the youth club then coached the youngsters at Farnworth Leisure Centre, in Brackley Street.

The footballer runs a junior side in Swinton, for which his 11-year-old son Sam plays.

The visit was organised after Judi Hibbert, the youth club's fundraiser, got talking to him as she watched her 11-year-old son Jamie play for the same team.

Judi said: "He had never heard of the youth club here -- but was very keen to come and help out.

"He said he wanted to give some of the lads a chance in the world of football and offer his advice and support to as many of them as possible.

"It was a great day. The children had a wonderful time. He loves working with children and they had a few practice games before some coaching sessions.

"A lot of the children are now saying that they want to be world famous footballers.

"Jason told them that he started off as a young lad from Farnworth with grand aspirations.

He said that anything is possible with guts and determination."

Wilcox, who holds three England caps, helped Blackburn Rovers win the Premiership in 1995. He joined Leeds United in 1999 and now lives in Worsley.

Zac's Bar opened in 2000 as a non-profit making alcohol-free bar for teenagers. It offers after-school clubs, groups and activities for youngsters aged 11 to 17.

Orgainsers are no strangers to famous faces -- their last celebrity visitor was Worsley pop star Sarah Whatmore.
