PREMIERSHIP-style pitch improvements will mean that amateur footballers in Bury can look forward to better playing conditions next season.
At the end of the month, work will begin to refurbish the soccer pitches at Redvales Playing Fields in Manchester Road, Bury, using techniques usually reserved for the grounds of England's top flight football clubs.
The operation will involve levelling, grading, top dressing and seeding the pitches but, as was done at Nuttall Park in Ramsbottom last year, a specialist Koro Topmaker machine will be used on one of the pitches.
Designed and built in Holland, it is used by many Premiership clubs as part of their pitch maintenance programme.
Bury Council's sports and recreation spokesman, Cllr Paul Nesbit, said: "We have been awarded a Sport England grant of just over £38,000 which will go towards the £50,000 overall cost of the refurbishment of the football pitches at Redvales.
"We are pleased to be using this high quality machine again in the borough and it further highlights the council's commitment to providing the best sporting and leisure facilities with the money that we have available."
