FITNESS work-outs Army style are heading for Bolton with a former soldier offering tough outdoor sessions in Moss Bank Park.

Ex-corporal Steve Wilde, from Swinton, is planning to spend Sunday mornings putting local people through their paces.

There will be no fancy gym equipment, just the intensive exercises he developed in his 14 years as a physical training instructor with the 1st Battalion, Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.

Dressed in camouflage trousers, heavy boots and a blue tee-shirt, the 33-year-old father-of-two will lead classes running round the park, two abreast, stopping off at various points for circuit training.

But he promises he will go easier on his civilian clients than he did on his Army trainees.

"This is a nice healthy alternative to the gym," said Steve, who now works as a personal fitness instructor.

"People like to be pushed and motivated but I won't be in people's faces yelling get down and give me 20 push ups," promised Steve.

Since leaving the Army two years ago, Steve has worked as a personal fitness instructor. But in his latest venture he hopes to bring Army techniques to a wider public. Since he started similar classes at the Irwell Valley Fields in Agecroft eight months ago, they have become increasingly popular with men an women from all walks of life.
