WITH the Bolton Evening News Pride of Bolton campaign well under way, people have had plenty to say about the town.

We went on to the streets to ask people what fills them with pride about Bolton, and what they are not so proud of.

PETER RAINFORD, window cleaner, aged 31, of McDonna Street, Halliwell.

"I think Bolton's night life is great. You don't have to travel far and it's much cheaper not having to get a taxi home from Manchester.

"I don't like the fact that Bolton has become a bit of a drugs town. It is a big problem here and just makes the town look bad."

SUE JACKSON, clerical officer, aged 44, of Treetops, Bromley Cross.

"We have quite a good shopping centre in Bolton. I find it easy to get around and there are plenty of nice places to eat.

"There's too much litter on the ground. I think it is a big problem in certain areas. There is also a lack of toilets for people to use and the ones we do have just aren't convenient."

COUNCILLOR JOHN MONAGHAN, former Mayor of Bolton 1999-2000, of the Cheethams, Blackrod.

"Bolton can be proud of its friendly people. The town is lively and dynamic.

"I do think that people throwing rubbish and chewing gum on the ground makes the place look untidy."

GAETANO CARACCIOLO, jazz musician, aged 34, of Bradshaw Brow, Bolton.

"I have lived in Bolton for four years now and I enjoy walking around the town centre. I like the fact that there are many shops.

"I think Bolton has a poor night life. It doesn't provide a great music scene. I usually have to go into Manchester if I want to go to a jazz club, for example.

SAMANTHA COULSON, Bury College student, aged 16, of Wilkinson Avenue, Little Lever.

"I think Bolton has great shops. I enjoy shopping at sports shops and there are many in the town centre.

"There's too much rubbish on the ground in Bolton. It makes the place look untidy and visitors would think it's a bit scruffy."

CLAIRE ELLIOTT, Bury College student, aged 16, of Winchester Road, Radcliffe.

"Bolton has great places to eat, and with everything being in the town centre, you don't really have to walk far.

"I enjoy going to the cinema in my spare time and having to get two buses to the cinema at Pilsworth, Bury, is something I hate. Bolton should have its own cinema again in the town centre."
