NEARLY a third of Bolton schools have described their sports equipment as poor and worn out, a recent survey has shown.

The survey, commissioned by Co-op Sports for Schools, was carried out to mark the launch of the Co-op's voucher scheme, which enables schools to obtain free sports equipment.

Paul Parry, senior marketing manager at United Co-op, believes the survey highlights an urgent need for improved sports facilities.

He said: "The reason we started Sport for Schools was to help schools like these provide high quality equipment and give children the best sporting start they deserve."

Under the scheme, shoppers can collect vouchers and donate them to a school of their choice. Schools wanting to participate can register by calling 0845 330 1202.
