STOCKPORT Council has claimed it is being overcharged for refuge collection.
The council said the Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority is overcharging it by £3 million a year.
The authority charges a flat rate per head of population, even though Stockport produces less waste than Manchester city centre.
The council said it will now end the contract with the authority and claimed it was, in effect, being penalised for recycling.
