PUPILS had a chance to meet a sporting hero at their school awards evening.

Former Wigan and Great Britain rugby league player Phil Clarke was the guest of honour at St Joseph's High School presentation evening in Horwich.

Mr Clarke, who is currently the Great Britain rugby team's manager, handed out certificates to the pupils at his former school and spoke to them about his professional career. He signed for Wigan when he was 16 and became one of the country's youngest ever captains at the age of 23.
