Horwich RMI Harrier ladies led the way in last Saturday's Red Rose League fixture at Bury.

The Harriers won the senior ladies team and veterans team categories with Suzanne Budgett (third, first lady over 35s) leading both teams in fine style.

Youngster Rachel Thompson had a great run to finish Horwich's second counter in fourth. Rachel, who is better known for her exploits in track and field events, ran really well considering cross-country is an event she has rarely tackled.

In the men's race Brendan Bolland continued his fine form, finishing fifth behind race winner Tom Lancashire of Bolton. Tony Hesketh won the men's over 50 and the men's vets team emulated the ladies as they won their respective team category.

Sue Jones recorded her second duathlon victory within a week, finishing first lady in the Helwith Bridge Duathlon (2x3.8 mile run, 23 mile cycle).
