From the Evening News, October 15, 1992 - AN FA Cup winner's medal, presented to a Bolton Wanderers' player at the legendary 1923 "White Horse Final", fetched £3,000 at an auction yesterday.

The medal, won by left-back Alex Finney when the Wanderers beat West Ham United 2-0, was bought by a private buyer.

Finney, who died in 1982, aged 81, won two out of the three winners' medals in Wanderers' famous 20s hat-trick of FA Cup victories, missing out on the 1926 final.

BOLTON Council officers are to investigate the problem of the shaking houses of Smithills Croft Road. Residents there are being awakened in the early hours by the rumble of juggernaut lorries.

The vibrations they cause have already produced cracks in plaster, knocked ornaments off shelves, and brought down a glass light fitting.

The lorries are based at a garage and car park owned by the local firm of Pickups. They leave the premises behind the road in the morning and return at night, leaving the road quiet during the night. Now the council is to look into the problem to see if they can find a solution.

SIR,- As a contribution to making a profit, I am sure that a quicker turn round of buses would save an enormous amount of money. As a good many out-districts (Barrow Bridge and Church-rd., for example) I have noticed bus men having a walk, going for ice cream, cups of tea, etc.

Cut out the side street buses and school buses for rounders teams, and get back to main road routes, when people could and had to walk to loosen their limbs.

I am informed that Middlesbrough still has 1d fares, and for 2d you can go five miles. They can still make a profit of £20,000.

How do they do it? Yours, 59654 R.G.A.

ONE of the first of living high comedians, Mr Charles Collette, is appearing this week at the Theatre Royal in several of his favourite comedies.

On Monday night the well-known American farce comedy "What happened to Jones?" was presented to a fairly well-attended house, Mr Collette appearing in the role of Jones.

The piece is one of those irresistibly funny productions which keep the house in a roar from start to finish. The piece is preceded by a dainty little curtain raiser "By Mutual Consent", the work of Mr Charles Windermere.

On Friday Mr Collette will appear as Adonis Evergreen in "My Awful Dad", a comedy around which the genius of the late Mr Charles Mathews clings like a delightful memory.
