AN award winning teacher was being honoured at a national conference today.

Wendy Nunns, from Blackrod Primary School, scooped first prize in the North-west heats of the Teacher of the Year competition.

The Year Two teacher was receiving further congratulations when colleagues paid tribute to her at the North West regional education conference and exhibition. Mrs Nunns is being presented with the "Freedom of NWEC" which is a lifetime award and allows her free entry to all the seminars and conferences at the annual event for the rest of her career.

The NWEC, which is sponsored by the Bolton Evening News, is being held at the Reebok stadium today and tomorrow.

The mother-of-two will compete in the national finals in London on October 27.

Anyone with an interest in education, including parents, teachers and those wanting to go into the career, are urged to attend one of the 40 workshops.
