Wanderers star Stig Tofting, jailed for four months in Denmark on assault charges, has 14 days to launch an appeal.

The midfielder has two weeks to appeal under Danish law after appearing at the Byrecten, or town court, in Copenhagen accused of assaulting two restaurant workers.

A spokesman for Wanderers said: "We have no comment to make until we have discussed the matter with our legal representatives."

Tofting described the sentence as heavy and said he wanted "time to reflect" before deciding whether or not to lodge an appeal.

The incident was alleged to have happened at a party to celebrate Denmark's return from the World Cup earlier this summer.

Tofting, who signed for Wanderers in February 2001 for £250,000 on a two-year contract from German side SV Hamburg, is alleged to have head-butted restaurant chef Patrick de Meef after a row. The cook suffered a cut over his eyebrow and was taken to hospital for stitches.

Tofting, who was out with 15 of the 23-strong Danish national team -- also allegedly punched de Meef's assistant, Michael Wilson, on the head as a brawl continued outside the the Cafe Ketchup restaurant.

Tofting was arrested and allowed home after being charged with violent disorder.
