WITH reference to the story and picture in the Bolton Evening News on October 3, "Now disabled can join in the fun".

It is indeed a shame that in Bolton there is only one swing for disabled children. I would like to know why every park in Bolton has not got them and other facilities, too.

I suggest that the powers-that-be first visit the schools that these children attend, and see their limitations, and also what they can do with a little help and understanding. Then they can assess their needs. And when you are spending taxpayers' money, please remember these children are also deprived of a normal childhood through no fault of their own, or their families, who do their level best to give them as normal a home life as is possible.

Children like Jane and Daniel need things adjusting to suit them, ie. protection at the front of the swings, so they can't fall off.

Believe me, these children are special. But of course you can see that if you ever have any contact with them.

Yes, I have an axe to grind, Daniel Smith in the picture with Jane is my special grandson. He also brings a lot of joy, regardless of his limitations.

With this one swing in Bolton, I suppose, as my mother always said, "We have to be thankful for small mercies."
