I REALLY do hope George Best gets well quickly and is soon back home with his devoted young wife Alex.
He may well have earned the liver failure which almost killed him. But he gave pleasure to millions as an ultra-talented footballer, and even though he has been quite poorly recently, he has always been able to take a wry look at his predicament.
It is quite endearing that, while he no doubt regrets the drinking and the hell-raising years, he obviously doesn't regret them completely.
