MANCHESTER City boss Kevin Keegan has given Bury FC another financial boost by allowing Shakers to auction off one of his first England shirts - 30 years after he 'lost' it! writes Chris Hall

The jersey was taken from the home dressing room after England's Under 23 clash with East Germany at Bristol City's Ashton Gate Stadium back in 1972.

Former Bury player Les Bardsley, then kit manager for Bristol, claimed the shirt as a momento before eventually passing it on to his son, who has now donated it to Shakers to help raise vital funds through the club's on-line auction.

It is still match worn, having never been cleaned, and is a collector's item in itself as it is the only number 11 shirt ever worn by the Liverpool and Newcastle legend.

Keegan was re-united with the kit he wore in only his second appearance for the national team before last week's friendly clash at Gigg Lane.

And, after authenticating and signing the valuable piece of football memorabilia, he admitted being mystified by its disappearance.

"I can't remember who nicked it but it is my England Shirt, that's for sure," he said.

"I think I went to do a press conference, we still had them in those days, and when I came back my shirt was gone. I can remember asking the guys for another one but they never had one.

"It was the number 11, so this is definitely the right one. Good luck with it and I hope you raise a lot of money with it."

The shirt, along with a certificate of authentication and a framed photograph of Keegan displaying it, will be available on www.buryfc.co.uk HERE until August 15.
