SAM Allardyce's persuasive powers are being put to the test as he finally sits down to talk with Real Madrid defender Ivan Campo.

The Spanish international centre-back arrived at the Reebok to discuss the personal terms of a transfer deal struck between Wanderers and the European Champions more than a week ago.

But the Bolton boss was offering no guarantees of a successful outcome before when he said: "Campo is here for talks and I'll be trying my best!"

The persistence and perseverance for which Allardyce is famed, has been challenged over the past three weeks, during which time he has seen a deal agreed with the Spanish giants only for the player to indicate his determination to stay at the Bernabeu.

Typical of the man who lured Youri Djorkaeff, Jay Jay Okocha and Bulent Akin on a spree of summer free transfers, he has refused to take 'no' for an answer and further negotiations have continued with the Spanish player's agents.

Allardyce is also running the rule over Fiorentina centre-back Alessandro Pierini. The once-capped Italian international, who has played more than 150 games in Italy's top flight, is available following the Florence club's financial collapse.

He was due to play at the Reebok on Wednesday night for the Italians before they cancelled their scheduled friendly in the wake of their cash crisis but could get a run-out as a trailist for Wanderers on Thursday night in the hastily-arranged friendly against Verona, who dramatically lost their Serie A status on the final day of last season.

Tickets purchased for the Fiorentina game will be valid for Thursday's game (ko 8pm) but supporters can take a full refund from the Ticket and Membership Office.

Prices are £14 for adults and £7 for concessions.
