Council planners have voted unanimously in favour of the development, which includes a multi-screen cinema, shops, a garden centre, and two restaurants. The facility will be built on the derelict Springfield Mills site, alongside St Peter's Way.

THOUSANDS of holidaymakers flying to North America are facing delays of up to 10 hours at Manchester Airport because of air controllers' disputes in Canada. Last weekend hundreds of tourists arrived at the airport to find their flights to the Spanish sun had been hit - delays were between 30 minutes and seven hours.

BACK from the Olympics in Helsinki, three members of the Bolton United Harriers Club found themselves at Bolton Town Hall today, accompanied by their wives, at the invitation of the Mayor, Ald. J. Vickers, who congratulated them on their efforts. Fred Norris had finished eighth to Zatopek in the 10,000 metres, beating the previous best Olympic Games time for the distance. Les Cheetham and Herbert Hall were beaten in the second round of the wrestling.

A MORNING of splendid promise heralded the event which King Edward described as "one of the most solemn and important of my life", and at an early hour all indications favoured the assumption that the great day to which the Empire and the world have looked forward would be favoured with fine, bright weather.

People began to flock towards Buckingham Palace at a very early hour, and inquiry elicited the pleasing fact that the brightness, the hope and the fair promise without were matched by the happiest conditions within, and the King had suffered no ill effects from yesterday's stress of State duties, and that he was fit and well to undergo the strain of his Coronation.
